I love a stroller. I have quite a few in my apartment, which is a constant source of amusement for company considering I have no children. One of my favorite strollers on the market, as well as one of my most-recommended, is the Uppababy VISTA.

I remember when this stroller launched. I was a wee boy working in the StrollerPit at a certain baby store in Chelsea. I was very intrigued by this stroller because it resembled a small tank for children—and I mean this in the most loving way possible. The wheels were quite substantial, the frame looked incredibly strong, the undercarriage bag was HUGE and the seat looked very comfortable: perfect for any kids and parents needing to fight the good fight navigating any terrain they came across. Over time this stroller became one of our favorites. The “StrollerBoys,” as we called ourselves, grew to love this stroller like a snow day—and customers soon agreed. I was even written up in the Wall Street Journal for talking people out of more expensive strollers and into the Uppababy VISTA. This was a sore spot amongst management, but I always valued my honesty. If a less-expensive stroller was better for your lifestyle, you were going to get what worked as far as I was concerned.

Uppababy VISTA: 679.99 available at Magic Beans and various other juvenile retailers

Enjoy my LOVELY pics (as well as my pasty-white leg!  Thank you winter!!)

PROS:

The free-standing bassinet is made of an organic soy-based material so if you’re using it as an actual bed, which many people do, you can rest assured that your little nugget isn’t resting its head in nasty chemicals.

The reversible seat has a weight limit of 50 pounds, an adjustable foot rest for superior comfort, a one-handed harness release, HUGE sun canopy with pop-out UV screen, and a swivel-hinge belly bar for easy access in and out of the seat.

Adjustable handle makes pushing this bad boy quite comfortable for people of various heights, and the floating rear axle means you’ll never kick the back as you walk.

The VISTA is compatible with Graco, Peg Perego, Maxi Cosi and Chicco car seats with an additional adapter.

The VISTA folds with the seat attached for easy transport, and the stroller can actually be pulled like a sled so you exert even less energy.

The undercarriage bag is enormous. End of story.

One of my favorite features of this stroller is in the small pocket on the back of the seat. The VISTA comes with play date cards. This way, when you run into friends at the park, you can give them your info and meet them again. I know I am a huge dork, but this single feature sums up the entire company to me: communication. Uppababy has TREMENDOUS customer support and they are a company commited to listening to consumers to improve their products as needed. They’ve grown by leaps and bounds since debuting, and have a HUGE future ahead of them.

CONS:

The stroller can be a bit heavy for some.

It is a wee bit wide as a single stroller, but that wheel base makes it incredibly sturdy—I can even climb all over it and it doesn’t come close to tipping.

    Hi Jamie -
I met you last weekend at the Magic Beans Donkey party (what a great night that was!).

I just read your review (which was great) of the Uppa Baby. I just checked (because I thought I had heard this was the case), and Uppa now sells a Maxi-Cosi infant seat adapter too – in addition to Peg Perego, Graco & Chicco – which I’m very happy about!

Good luck with the new site – it looks great!

Well my goodness!!! Thanks for letting me know!!! Cannot believe I overlooked that–I need to make a phone call ;-)

I’m a mom of 5. I’ve owned over 20 strollers over the past 14 years. I bought a Vista 6 months ago, for my 5th and final child. It’s been worth every penny. I LOVE this stroller.

For what it is, it’s not a particularly heavy stroller. Sure, it’s not light like a Maclaren, but it’s got more features. It’s way lighter than the Phil and Ted’s Sport that I was using before I got it.

I second the love of Uppa Baby and their customer service. I hurt my frame and called them. A real person in their main office answered, had me e-mail her a photo and had a new frame shipped out that day.
I think of it as more of a Range Rover than a tank.
Which makes the G-lite my moped.

Excellent post! We purchased the Vista a couple years ago and have been very happy with it. The large basket definitely comes in handy while shopping and it’s a smooth ride – easy to steer with one hand. Another selling point for us was the option of turning the Vista into a double with the RumbleSeat attachment. We recently had baby #2 and are now using the Graco infant carseat adapter and RumbleSeat for my toddler – he gets a kick out of riding in the back. You can’t go wrong with the Vista!

Hello My daughter is Coming on 2 and I have already been through 5 stroller’s Including baby Jogger, Quinny buzz, Bugaboo, peg perego, and Maclaren.. if I would have seen this stroller I would have passed the other ones by.. It’s so hard choosing the right stroller that will actually last My daughter has a tracheostomy and we have to carry machineary everywhere we go and strollers get pretty beat up when I use them everyday .. Especially when I like to go for ling walks on trails there is always something missing…

Omg. Now I need to sell my Bob and get an Uppa Baby. I’ve been kinda giving them the side eye for a few years and now I’m in lust.

  • Stacy says:

Hello! I have a 2009 Uppa Baby and LOVE IT!!! However we are expecting baby #2 soon and I have been debating on adding the rumble seat or just purchasing a different double stroller. I love this stroller so much I hate to give it up but I worry about my toddler not being forward facing (and looking at the back of a seat… can’t be too exciting). Have you heard any parents like/dislike the rumble seat addition? Just curious on what you have heard about it!
    Thanks!

    • Kallee says:

      Stacy,

Did you get a response regarding the rumble seat? I am thinking about the same thing. I love my Vista but the rumble seat doesn’t look like that great of a design. Thanks.

      • Jamie Grayson says:

        Hi ladies!

The rumble seat is ok. It’s not necessarily MY favorite, but I know many people who are happy with it. Email me and we can discuss further ;)

now I just want one even more :)

As a nanny for over 15+yrs, I’ve had my fair share of experience with strollers and I have to say, hands down, the Vista is the best stoller on the market! It may be a bit wide, but it pushes like a dream, and the undercarrage space is ginormous! My only slight complaint is that the Vista doesn’t come in more fun colors, like hot pink or a bright green. But, when you add up price, accessories, and most of all, performance, the Vista beats every other high end stoller around. Now that I’m planning to have my own family, there’s no doubt which stroller I’m getting for my little one!

  • Traelee says:

I’ve had a Vista for 3+ years and can say it’s held up to more abuse than I would ever imagine. It’s hauled up to 3 kids at once plus our luggage through airports all over the country. I have nothing but love for UppaBaby. Mine is an ’08 so it was the fun purple McKenna? model that has been retired. It finally got beaten up on it’s 30th flight…still useable, but it’s been in retirement for a while now.

  • Oh man I want this stroller for baby2ElectricBoogaloo!!! I’m in love!

  • Atique Ullah says:

    Hi Jamie,

Great website! I also love the Vista and got it for my son after doing a ton of research. The only thing that bothers me is when the canopy is fully open the fabric isn’t taut, it’s bunchy. Is this an issue with this stroller? Have you come across this and is there something I can do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Yogue says:

    hi,

thanks so much for this review. we have a newborn and i am debating the uppababy vs. the bugaboo chameleon, would you have some insights you could share? thanks so much.

  • Pixie says:

Nice contest! Thanks for doing this!

  • HepzabaV says:

    Great article!

@Youge I’d like to give you a suggestion. Go with the UPPA over the Bugaboo! Main reason, if you have a second child, it has a jump seat and converts to a double! This is a HUGE perk!!

  • Suzanne says:

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my 2010 Uppababy Vista! had an issue with the boning poking through the fabric in the UV sunshade and they sent me a brand new sunshade, no questions/photos asked that arrived in 3 days! Love the UV sunshade, love that the baby can face me, loved using the bassinet as a pram carriage – love, love, love the stroller! Agreed it is a little heavy and the wheel span is quite wide, but I can live with those issues – they are very minor. Wanted to buy the G-Luxe back in October but the company was out of stock (for over 6 months) – went with the Bumbleride Flite which is nice but wish I had the G-Luxe for the undercarriage storage!

  • Nicole says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Vista as well! I purchased it in the yellow and get so many compliments. My son is 7 months AND we just found out that I’m expecting AGAIN! This is the last one but so happy we can purchase the rumble seat (this lessens the blow a bit).

I’m so nervous about this impending pregnancy but we’re going to roll with it since we still have a ton a baby products around.

    Wish me luck!:)

  • Laura says:

I have a 2010 Vista and I couldn’t love it more. I get tons of compliments on it. For me, the biggest selling point was that it can accomodate a growing family and the basket is the biggest I saw on any stroller. LOVE LOVE LOVE my Vista!
