Is That Cargo in Your Pouch….?

Is That Cargo in Your Pouch….?

Every now and then a stroller comes along that seems very ordinary, but is, in fact, quite remarkable. Double strollers come and go, but the Mountain Buggy Duet will be one that stays around for a bit—and it’s one that I have constantly recommended to people looking for a double.

Why?

It’s 25 inches wide. That’s as wide, or more narrow, than many single strollers on the market. How’d they accomplish this? The majority of strollers have wheels that extend far past the frame, and this makes the wheels the widest point of the stroller–essentially wasted real estate. The Duet actually built the frame out over the wheels, allowing for a side-by-side double that is actually the most narrow side-by-side double I know of. I’ve reviewed it before, and we all know I love it.

Great tires.
Adjustable handle.
Nice understorage basket.
A non-rethread harness that adjusts with a simple twist and slide.
It’s really a terrific double stroller.

When I originally received mine in the mail, I had a thought: “If this is 25 inches wide, then it’s a single. So parents with one kid could buy it and use the seat on the side to hold their belongings like a side-saddle bag. Nope. They need a bag.” I sent an email to my peeps at Mountain Buggy, and 7 days later I was shown the prototype for the Joey.

What’s the Joey? Take out the seat on the right side and snap in a cargo bag. Inside this bag is a removable canvas shopping bag, actually allowing you scoop all your cargo out at once. Yes, it’s a similar idea to another stroller out there with a side-saddle bag. What sets it apart?

It’s cheaper.
It’s lighter.
It has a more compact fold.
It’s more narrow.
It can fit through a door with two car seats in double mode.
You can leave the canopy on when the Joey is attached and actually cover your cargo in bad weather.

Attaching the bag is a bit more complicated than the other guy, and the seats aren’t reversible; but there is a LOT going for this stroller. I love it. I use it. I encourage you all to give it a looksie.

The Mountain Buggy Duet retails for $599.99 and is available at Magic Beans.
The Mountain Buggy Joey retails for $39.99.

But you know I am gonna give one of you the chance to win one. That’s how I roll ;)

I would use it to put all the things I could possibly need for this new baby! Having a 3 and 1/2 year old and soon to be newborn it will come in handy this summer!

  • Aijan says:

I love both, I love the frame, I love how narrow it is. So much junk we have to carry around just in case the baby or a toddler will need something.

    Did I mention groceries?????

I would use it for shopping at all venues. This is awesome…and you don’t have to worry about weighing down back of stroller with purchase items.

  • Monica says:

A diaper bag since digging them out from under a stroller is a pain and it’s too heavy to hook on the back. Thanks for doing a giveaway!

  • tasha says:

What a great stroller! I think I would use the joey to carry a cooler! We drink ALOT of water.

  • Micaela says:

I’d use the storage as my extra pair of mommy hands since you soon realize that you are very limited in what you can carry and push all at once! :) )

toys and potty for cemtral park

  • Nicole U says:

Groceries from the Farmers Market. I love the Joey!!

I have a 3 year old, and a 9 month old so when we go somewhere for the day, the diaper bag won’t quite hold everything I need so the joey would be GREAT for an extra change of clothes for each of the kids, snack, something to drink, toys to keep them entertained, and plenty of diapers and wipes!

  • Kristine N. says:

groceries! and all our beach gear for trips to the beach =)

  • Katie says:

I would put whatever produce/meat/products I buy at the Farmers Market into the joey!

  • Lindsay says:

I’ve totally been eyeing this stroller. The joey is a great idea. The problem with under seat storage is it’s hard to keep things upright that really should be upright. I’d use it to hold our frozen yogurt on the way to eat it at the park. Frozen yogurt that’s melting in the heat while tipped up on its side is a bummer.

  • Lisa Bolduc says:

i would put my pug in there so he can get pushed around too! lol

  • Jill boysen says:

Groceries when we walk to the store.

  • Christa says:

Hmmm…probably all the junk my 3 year old thinks he needs to bring with every time we walk out the door, not to mention all the stuff needed for our newborn (those cloth diapers are not compact).

  • angela heffner says:

what wouldn’t I put in the Joey? My boys and all their stuff of course! :)

  • Traci says:

So, after walking in a parade, 3 miles, up hill, pushing a stroller AND throwing candy.. I had this thought. This would have been the BEST stroller to have.

Instead of trying to push my (wonderful, but not really 3-miles-up-hill friendly) modular stroller and hold the bag of candy… Filling the Joey with Candy and having the wonderful multiple terrain ability of the Mountain Buggy would have been AMAZING.

Sure, wouldn’t have fixed my bad judgement of wearing my orange sequin Sperry Top-Siders on a 3 mile walk (hi, blisters) but it would resolve the rest of my woes!!

  • Stephanie S says:

Awesome! Don’t judge me but I would throw in a few bottles of Sass wine!

  • Felicia says:

I would put my shopping bags, purse, diaper bag or If I needed to pick up a few things from the market I would use this instead of a shopping cart

  • Christa says:

Probably my gigantic purse and Farmer’s Market Finds!

  • Jacey Blue says:

I would definitely use the Joey when I go to Trader Joes because their carts are too small for baby & groceries. So I’d put fresh flowers, produce & other deliciousness in Joey to simplify shopping!

The joey could hold everything your toddler thinks she needs to bring with her. you know, all 3 dolls, a stuffed animal, 2 bowls and her cup in case she is thirsty, but she wants to walk like a big girl.

  • Deirdre says:

I would chuck my diaper bag down there so that I don’t have to push a stroller and lug around a tote full of diaper supplies. Thanks for the opportunity.

  • Leslie G says:

  • Theresa J says:

All my shopping bags for sure

  • Megan C says:

Burritos and booze? Kidding, kidding… sort of, lol (hey, it’s been a long and medically complicated pregnancy, try not to judge, lol!). I’d load all of the diaper bag basics in the joey, my purse, and would love to put it to use at the farmer’s market, too. Very cool feature! megancrose@gmail.com

  • Jordan C says:

Oh man, this would be perfect for my two year old and 6 month old. A stroller that is useful when you are going somewhere, like walking to the library and you have to have your two year old in the stroller. Then you can use it at the zoo and bring along a picnic and tons of water so my daughter can walk and son can ride. One stroller for everything, we would have so much extra storage in our garage as well. We have three strollers right now, two singles and a double. As all parents know…they take up space and the price adds up!

  • Raine Marie says:

oh, a diaper bag, the laptop, some running shoes…..the possibilites are endless ;)

Most likely my diaper bag…or I’d use it to hold things while shopping. :)

  • Taylor says:

Oh gosh, I always seem to have so much stuff to cart around…it would be great for snacks, water bottles (it’s hot here in Austin!), extra clothes for kiddo, our huge diaper bag, and maybe a magazine as well. It would also be nice to have at the grocery store/market.

  • Lauren says:

I’d be tempted to put an adult beverage in there but that’s probably not recommended :) Snacks though- specifically those Annie’s bunny gummies, those are my last resort when Helen is fussy but they ALWAYS work (for the two seconds it takes Helen to eat them)

  • Ross Olson says:

I would put extra clothes for my son, diapers, wipes, and snacks in there for going out to the zoo and the beach.

I would load up the Joey with the goodies from our walks to the grocery store!

  • Avon S. says:

I would use the Joey to carry all of our gear when we head out for a day the park or a morning at the farmer’s market.

  • Lara Winton says:

I would put…. Everything! In my Joey. Groceries. Shopping for clothes. Going to the farmers market. Going for walks and need toys etc to preoccupy the midget. I would for this stroller to come live at my house!!!

  • Amie Olson says:

I would put all of our extra baby & toddler gear ~ clothes, diapers, wipes, etc.~ in there!

  • Kim D says:

Isn’t it odd, how the universe aligns, and just when you are researching something, it seems everyone is blogging about it?
We’re *trying* to expand our family (as in, I am old and it takes work now) and with a fussy pre-schooler who ends to say ‘no’ to walking at the least convenient moments, a double stroller will be necessity. I LOVE LOVE LOVE tht this is a narrow double stroller. I had stopped looking at the side by side options because they are so wide. Thanks for the review! And for this contest….*sprinkling good luck dust on myself to win* ;)

  • Anica says:

I always have SOOO much extra crap! I would put my purse in it and any shopping ( clothes or groceries)… but also extra toys, blanket, extra diapers ( even though I have some in my purse and diaper bag) my carrier for when they need picked up :) — see lots of stuff!

  • Chrissy says:

Hmmm, so many possibilities! Since I’m always THAT lady with too many groceries to fit in the underneath basket, I’d probably use it as bag overflow storage when out shopping. Beach gear when walking to the beach, trucks and other toys for going to the park. This is one awesome stroller!

  • jessica Eichhorn says:

I’d love to use this for when I’m out shopping or whatever with my 3Drs kids… I’d have room for the 2whole and all our goodies… which eould be great since i have very low vision and currently only have a small umbrella stroller for 1when and nothing else. This would make outings a lot easier and a lit more fun.

  • Michele says:

I would bring it to the public market to carry my fresh produce, pasta, and meats (not to mention all the delicious fresh baked goods!)
So much easier than using a basket down below and holds a lot!

I would put the essential on the go supplies in the Joey, such activities to keep the children entertained, snacks, diapers, wipes, etc.

I love your reviews! They are exactly what I’ve been looking for!

  • Christina says:

    groceries!

  • Sheri says:

I would keep my diaper bag in the Joey because I keep it over-stuffed for every possible scenario, which means it’s huge and it would be nice to tote it in the stroller instead of carrying it.

  • Angie T says:

I would put snacks and also my diaper bag! What a great place for extras!

  • Genevieve says:

Awesome double/single options! I love the room it gives, yet such a small footprint! Amazing!

  • Genevieve says:

And I would totally use the bag area for the heavy lunches, towels, drinks, etc on my summer zoo trips! (like the one I’m taking tomorrow! Too bad it can’t be here by then!)
