Bubble Bum Booster Seat
Ahhh, Child Passenger Safety Week is drawing to a close. I hope you’ve all learned a few things. I know I’ve had a blast chatting with you all daily about car seat safety, cocktails, Ryan Gosling, and whatever I felt like. One seat I’ve been VERY excited to chat about this week is the Bubble Bum Booster Seat. Let’s discuss.
Yes, the name is funny. Yes, it’s purple (or black). Yes, it’s inflatable. Yes, you heard that right. I was introduced to Bubble Bum when I went through my Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification course. At first, I was like “meh, this is lame.” Then, after discussing how it worked and how absolutely brilliant it was, I was like “meh. This is AWESOME.”
Don’t be fooled. It complies to all US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards AND European Standards. This inflatable wonder of a booster seat can easily roll up and fit in a bag, which means parents can easily carry this around; and if your kids go visit relatives or travel, they’ll have a booster seat they can carry with them. Completely innovative. Completely safe. Completely nailing it. It’s not a gimmick at all. The positioning clips on the side of the Bubble Bum also hold the lap belt in the PERFECT position across the thighs (NOT over the abdomen) while your child rides (given they’re the appropriate age/weight/height). Speaking of weight, the weight limit is 80 lbs, which isn’t as high as some booster seats, but you are gaining SO very much in terms of portability that it’s a great option for traveling families. And speaking of families, you can fit the Bubble Bum three-across in most cars. Score.
Quick note about booster seat safety: they MUST be used with both lap AND shoulder belts. Actually, shoulder belts are pretty damn important for EVERYONE as they lock into place when abrupt stops happen and keep the rider from slamming forward. Yep. Use them.
