I am messy. I’ve never been very organized, and I’ve never pretended that I am. In fact, since I’ve been officially “on my own” the past couple years, it has been a fascinating and wonderful education in how to stay organized and on top of deadlines.

I’ve always heard the saying that “your bedroom is a reflection of your mind”–and if that’s true, I am in trouble. Amplify that by the fact that I am in a studio apartment in NYC, and I’ve one big (small) messy mind…My desk is normally piled with magazines, Canadian Oreo bags, iPhone chargers, packing material, random products I should be reviewing, and mountains of business cards. The fact that I am bombarded with baby gear and press releases daily doesn’t help things, so it seems that as soon as one mountain is gone another pops up in its place. While we’re speaking of baby gear in my studio apartment, it’s no secret that I like to re-purpose what I can. The boon Grass has long been my drying rack for wine glasses, and the Glo has a permanent place in my bookshelf/room divider/giant piece of furniture that doesn’t allow me to see my computer from bed so I can sleep at night. So, I got to thinking: what if I had a LOT of boon products and used them to boon my room? BINGO. I shot an email over to boon and we had a phone chat. WHAT would I be doing with this stuff? WHY, as a childless 33-year-old man, do I want more baby products in my apartment? WHO in their right mind could pull this off? The answers were: organization, because I love the boon aesthetic, and me. So, a few days later I received a few boxes from boon, and I tore them open and went to work. Let’s begin, shall we:

The kitchen. As I said before, the boon Grass has been on my cabinet for years. It is PERFECT for wine glasses and silverware, and it’s MUCH more attractive than some basket-type drying rack. The boon Stem and boon Twig attachments are also great for smaller items you need to dry like nipples and smaller bottle parts.

I try to be good about using canvas bags when I go to the grocery, but inevitably I end up with TONS of plastic bags. How in the name of all that is holy do I store them? BAM! It hit me. I grabbed the boon Whale Pod and attached it to the back of my kitchen closet door. It’s perfect for storing those obnoxious plastic bags—I suppose it’s also great for bath toys since it’s easy to scoop them up, rinse, and then hang to dry. Moving onto the Living Room, or bedroom, or office…it’s a studio, so I get confused!!!

My bookshelf/massive Expedit is actually ok, but I have these AMAZING “vintage” postcards of ads for men’s clothing from the 70s that I REALLY wanted to display. Hmmmmm, it seems I’ve an extra boon Lawn lying around….perfect Now the desk. THE mess.

I had a box of small products I need to look over and NO clue what to do. And, let’s face it, a big brown box on my floor isn’t cute. I grabbed the boon Loop and set it on top of some wine crates I’ve been collecting for another project. The boon Loop is this great diaper caddy with a wipe dispenser, a large section for diapers in the middle, an organizing bin on the other side, and a handle built into the top for carrying about. It’s PERFECT for holding smaller products I receive, as well as their catalogs and press releases, and the organizing bin holds my adhesive wall strips. It sits at arms-reach so that I can grab things as I need them and then return them to the pile.

The boon Turf is a front-facing bookshelf that can hang on the wall, or (as I have it) rest on a desktop. I love the asymmetrical design of it, and it’s a great place to stash books, notebooks, and a magazine or two. I also think this could be REALLY fun in a kitchen to hold spices and what not.

I have tons of pens, markers, and colored pencils (as IF I can draw), and a few random trinkets I love to keep around my desk. THAT is where the boon Stash comes in. The boon Stash is a brilliant little off-kilter organizing rack that can attach to the wall (thanks, wall adhesive strips—I RENT!!!) or just rest on a flat surface. Great for cotton swabs, cotton balls, ointments, and other changing table needs, it’s GENIUS for a desk. In fact, just go out and buy one or two if you don’t win this contest….more on that later

I have a giant lamp by my desk, but sometimes I need mood lighting. The boon Glo is a wonderful addition to the desk. With a revolving display of LED lights that reflect through plastic balls in the top of three stems, the boon Glo is a cool-looking nightlight and the balls are even removable so your little one can take them to bed with them to keep the bad guys away. Me? I just love the lights and find it incredibly relaxing while I am sitting at this computer writing, answering tweets, responding to Facebook questions, and drinking wine and watching YouTube clips of people falling.

I am BEYOND thrilled with my new desk setup, and cannot thank boon enough for agreeing to go along with me on this. Their products really are terrific, and it’s SO easy to up-cycle them once you’re finished with their intended use…or you don’t have kids in the first place like me.
